Sliced Onion
Sewing Machine
Directed by Ülo Pikkov · EE, 2026 · 12 min · original language with English subtitles
One Singer sewing machine stitches together a century of Estonian women's history.
Passed from mother to daughter through war, deportation and independence, a single sewing machine becomes the narrator of a family’s — and a nation’s — twentieth century. Pikkov animates archives, receipts and thread into twelve immaculate minutes.
Winner of the Sliced Onion Award for best short documentary.
