Directed by Stefan Malešević · RS, 2026 · 77 min · original language with English subtitles
A meditative journey through a mountain village where the living and the departed still share the same fields.
Filmed over three years in the highlands between Serbia and North Macedonia, Malešević’s camera follows shepherds, beekeepers and one very stubborn mule through seasons that seem to fold into each other. The village empties a little more every winter, but the rituals — slava feasts, hay harvests, funerals — keep their exact shape.
What begins as an observational portrait slowly becomes a film about gravity: what holds people to a place, and what finally lets them lift off.
Director's note & bio +
I grew up hearing that the village would be gone in ten years. Twenty years later it is still dying — beautifully, defiantly. I wanted to film that defiance before it becomes a museum.
