The citizens of Rijeka re-enact the sixteen months a mad poet ruled their city — with costumes, irony and grave doubts.
In 1919 the proto-fascist poet Gabriele D’Annunzio seized the port of Fiume with a private army and declared a state run on rhetoric. A century later, Bezinović casts today’s Rijeka locals to restage the occupation on its original locations, and the past starts talking back.
Winner of the Tiger Award in Rotterdam and the Young Onion here in Skopje — history as street theatre, with the joke pointed squarely at strongmen everywhere.
